Kalumpang:A disruption in the signalling system between Kalumpang and Kuala Kubu Bharu resulted in delays of up to five hours for KTM Komuter and ETS services yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) reported that the most severely affected KTM Komuter service was Train No. 2389, which faced a delay of 230 minutes. Meanwhile, the ETS service EP9138, traveling from KL Sentral to Butterworth, experienced a 305-minute delay.

KTMB identified the disruption as originating from damage to a system component, which sparked and disrupted the signalling system. The specific cause of the component damage is currently under investigation.

The disruption had a cascading effect on the movement and schedules of other trains in the sector, particularly affecting services to and from the north.

Simultaneously, KTMB is conducting Rawang-Ipoh Double Tracking upgrade works, including along the Kalumpang route, which required schedule adjustments. The combination of these works and the signalling disruption further restricted train movements, leading to additional delays for several KTM Komuter and ETS services.

KTMB reported that repair works were completed at 5:15 am today, with the first Komuter train departing from Tanjung Malim at 5:45 am. Although services have returned to normal, a residual delay of 30 minutes persists due to the signalling fault along the Batang Kali route.

KTMB apologized to passengers affected by the incident and announced that full fare refunds would be issued to those who chose not to continue their journey, in accordance with existing procedures.
