Melaka: The Melaka government has presented a special incentive of RM50,000 to national badminton champion Toh Ee Wei, who hails from the state, for her mixed doubles victory at the World Championships in Paris. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh stated that Ee Wei’s success in winning the mixed doubles event not only brought honour to Malaysia on the international stage but also made the people of Melaka proud.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government deeply appreciates Toh Ee Wei’s achievement in bringing honour to the state and the country. This special incentive is hoped to inspire more Melaka-born individuals to achieve success on the world stage, as mentioned by the Chief Minister in a statement.
Earlier, Ab Rauf received a visit from Ee Wei at the Chief Minister’s Office in Seri Negeri Ayer Keroh. He added that during their meeting, Ee Wei had also expressed her desire to establish a badminton academy in Melaka to nurture more new talents in the sport.
The state government welcomes this proposal as it will not only contribute significantly to sports development but also serve as a platform for her to give back to her home state, Ab Rauf said.
