Sharjah: Sharjah Deputy Ruler, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, recently attended the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of the Master of Science in Media Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation programme at the University of Barcelona.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme, the first of its kind, is offered by the University of Sharjah's (UOS) College of Communication in partnership with the University of Barcelona, with strategic support from Sharjah Media City (Shams). Sultan Bin Ahmed, who is also UOS President, expressed pride in the graduates' achievements and praised the strong partnership between the two universities, citing their shared commitment to knowledge, excellence, and global understanding.
In a statement, he emphasized that the programme enables students to benefit from the intellectual and cultural strengths of Sharjah and Barcelona, preparing them for careers in an increasingly interconnected world. Presenting certificates to 24 graduates, Sultan Bin Ahmed said the programme serves as a hub where new ideas are born and information is examined, interpreted, and shaped before being shared with the world.
He noted, 'The digitalised era has altered information speed and dissemination, allowing the stories, platforms, and narratives they create to reach audiences across the globe, a power that needs humility, integrity, and insight.' He also highlighted Shams' role as the programme's third strategic partner, saying the collaboration between academia, industry, and the creative economy equips graduates with practical experience, diverse perspectives, and the skills needed to address real-world challenges.
Before the ceremony, Sultan bin Ahmed met University of Barcelona Rector Dr Joan Gu rdia Olmos to discuss ways to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation. He also toured the university's academic facilities, graduation hall, library, and collection of rare manuscripts and books. On the sidelines of the visit, Sultan bin Ahmed attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Shams and the Faculty of Philology and Communication at the University of Barcelona to strengthen cooperation in media, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, scientific research, and the creative industries.
