Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will step up security and traffic controls in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from tomorrow ahead of the 69th Merdeka Eve celebrations and National Day 2026. Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus announced that road closures for the preliminary rehearsal in Putrajaya would be in place from tomorrow until Friday, with Persiaran Perdana completely closed from Jalan Kemerdekaan to Lebuh Bestari.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, eight major roads will be closed from 6 am to noon for rehearsals on August 28 and 29, including Dataran Putra, Persiaran Perdana, Laman Perdana, and several others. Road closures in Putrajaya will begin at 5 am on August 30 and remain in place until 6 pm the following day, affecting several bridges and routes.
Fadil mentioned that Seri Wawasan Bridge, Seri Saujana Bridge, Seri Gemilang Bridge, Putra Bridge, and Seri Ehsan Bridge will be closed, while only Seri Bestari Bridge and Seri Setia Bridge will remain open to traffic. Other affected routes include Lebuh Bestari, Lebuh Setia, and several others.
He urged visitors to plan their journeys and utilize the free shuttle bus service provided by Putrajaya Corporation. He also advised the public not to fly drones in the no-fly zone of Putrajaya and not to be alarmed by cannon fire during rehearsals and celebrations.
A total of 2,357 police personnel will be deployed in Putrajaya to oversee security and traffic control, with an expected attendance of around 80,000 visitors. In Kuala Lumpur, police will launch the 2026 Merdeka Eve Crime Prevention Operation, focusing on crime hotspots and crowd-drawing areas.
The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT KL) will manage traffic control at major locations such as Dataran Merdeka, KLCC, and Sunway Velocity, where large crowds are expected for fireworks and a drone show at the Kuala Lumpur Tower.
