IPOH: Several houses in the areas of Kampung Sungai Rokam and Taman Cempaka experienced flooding due to a heavy downpour lasting more than an hour this afternoon. The rainfall led to rapid water flow in nearby rivers and malfunctioning water pumps, exacerbating the flooding situation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Kinta District Civil Defence Force (APM) Operations Control Centre (PKOD) stated that the heavy rains began around 4 p.m., causing Sungai Pinji to overflow. The malfunction of water pumps at Jalan Salak in Kampung Sungai Rokam contributed to the flooding of several homes. In total, five houses near the river were affected, with floodwaters reaching the fronts of the properties.
Residents responded promptly by relocating their vehicles to elevated areas for safety, as reported by the Kinta APM PKOD. The water levels in Sungai Pinji eventually receded, and the situation was declared under control.
In a separate statement, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the assistant director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division, reported that eight houses in Persiaran Cempaka Sari 11, Taman Cempaka, were also affected by flash flooding. The situation was managed by 5:53 p.m., with water levels gradually receding, ensuring the safety of the affected residents.
