Sarikei: A total of seven bridge projects in Sarawak are expected to be completed and opened for public use by the end of this year, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. He announced that the bridges include the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, Batang Saribas 1 Bridge, Batang Limbang, Batang Lingga, Batang Igan, Batang Sebauh, and the Sejingkat Bridge in Kuching.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Uggah highlighted that four bridges have already been opened this year. These include the iconic Bintulu-Jepak Bridge in Bintulu, the Muara Lassa Bridge, the Marudi Bridge, and most recently, the Batang Rajang Bridge. The announcement was made during the soft opening of the 1.4-kilometre Batang Rajang Bridge in Sarikei.
The Batang Rajang Bridge project, which includes a 17-kilometre stretch of the Pasi/Tanjung Manis/Sibu Road, was completed at a cost of RM321 million. The bridge significantly reduces travel time between Tanjung Manis and Sibu to about an hour, compared to the previous two-and-a-half-hour journey on the old road.
