Seven Local Authorities in Perak Equip Enforcement Officers with Body-Worn Cameras.

IPOH: Seven local authorities in Perak today received body-worn cameras (BWCs) to be immediately used by their enforcement officers. The authorities are the Ipoh City Council, Manjung Municipal Council, Taiping Municipal Council, Teluk Intan Municipal Council, Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council, Kampar District Council, and Batu Gajah District Council.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching stated that the committee had conducted a three-month proof of concept for the BWC usage programme since August. The use of BWCs was proposed following issues involving street animal capture operations. Ng emphasized that the state government decided to implement the use of body-worn cameras to ensure operations are conducted more transparently, professionally, and ethically.

Ng also mentioned that the state government will extend the programme by distributing more BWCs to eight additional local authorities in the first quarter of 2025 as part of phase tw
o of the initiative.
