Kuala lumpur: Libraries are not merely centres of knowledge, but can be made into second homes for families to build up discipline in reading, creativity and positive values in children, Deputy National Unity Minister K Saraswathy said. Parents have an important role in nurturing their children and make libraries places for reading, discussion and to instill a love to write, indirectly strengthening familial bonds through mutually beneficial activities, she added.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saraswathy emphasized the importance of encouraging children to visit libraries more often. She noted that frequent visits will not only expand young minds but also unite families through reading, discussions, and appreciation of values. The experience of visiting libraries in person offers a deeper impact as children can learn while appreciating the surroundings and observing others engaged in reading.
She spoke during the launch of “Amanda Rescues The Dino Egg,” a book written by nine-year-old Aayushi Yogeswaran, at the Selangor International Book Festival (SIBF) 2025. The event celebrates the young author’s achievement in publishing. Saraswathy highlighted that libraries can foster discipline in reading, boost creativity, and provide space for children to cultivate an interest in writing, thereby expanding their knowledge for the future.
Saraswathy further explained that every book children read becomes a part of their life experience and contributes to their future thinking and personality. Libraries serve not just as learning spaces but also as areas to foster close familial ties and cultivate a consistent reading habit.
“Amanda Rescues The Dino Egg” is Aayushi’s third book, following her writing journey that began at age seven. The book aims to inspire children to write and appreciate the values of bravery, responsibility, and purity. It also highlights that children can achieve great results when they are supported, motivated, and given proper opportunities.
