Serkam Residents To Benefit From New Community Health, Rehabilitation Facilities

Kuala lumpur: Residents in the Serkam state constituency can now enjoy easier and more convenient access to health, welfare, and rehabilitation facilities following the opening of three new community facilities in the area today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof stated that the facilities-the MADANI Community Rehabilitation and Gymnasium Centre, the Medicine Locker Service, and the Nur Ehsan Community-Based Rehabilitation (PDK) Programme-were established to bring service delivery closer to the people. The Serkam State Assembly Community Rehabilitation and Gymnasium Centre aims to provide rehabilitation services to the public, especially individuals requiring follow-up treatment after receiving care at hospitals or clinics. Through the UniMADANI Grant 2024, RM100,000 has been allocated for rehabilitation equipment and basic gym facilities.

Ab Rauf mentioned that the centre would be managed by Melaka State Health Department personnel, with support from Community Paramedics (PARAKOM), to ensure users receive proper guidance, monitoring, and rehabilitation services. The centre will also offer Medicine Locker Services, enabling patients to receive their supply of medicines according to appointment dates without waiting or queuing at pharmacy counters. This facility will serve patients from Umbai Health Clinic and Merlimau Health Clinic, making Serkam the first state constituency in Melaka to implement the Medicine Locker Service through a community rehabilitation centre.

Meanwhile, the Nur Ehsan PDK initiative, which focuses on rehabilitation, training, and skills development for persons with disabilities (PwDs), began operating at its new location in Serkam in May 2025 after relocating from Taman Pulai Indah, Merlimau. It currently has 21 trainees undergoing continuous training and rehabilitation programmes. Melaka now has 18 PDK centres supported by 95 personnel, and the Social Welfare Department has allocated RM4.41 million to support the programme's implementation statewide, benefiting more than 500 PwD participants. Of this total, more than RM166,000 has been specifically allocated to support the operations and needs of the Nur Ehsan PDK.

The Chief Minister assured that the state government would continue implementing programmes and initiatives that directly benefit the people to ensure service delivery continues to meet community needs.
