Senior Editor of Makkal Osai Benefits from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM Contribution

Selayang:Makkal Osai senior editor Rajan Boopalan, currently undergoing treatment at Selayang Hospital for high blood pressure complications, has received support from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM initiative.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching presented the contribution during a visit to the hospital, where she met with Rajan's wife, A. Saraswathi, to offer moral support. Rajan, 68, has had a notable 45-year career in journalism, including 15 years with the Tamil-language newspaper.

Rajan was hospitalized on September 8 after collapsing due to high blood pressure complications. Initially, he was treated in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) before being moved to a regular ward. Teo, alongside Bernama management, visited to provide assistance to his family through the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative.

The visit included Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama Head of Management Services and Finance Sharifah Zaini Syed Zain. Rajan was previously found unconscious at home, leading to surgery for a ruptured blood vessel in his head, and his condition is now stable.

Teo highlighted that the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative has supported 253 media practitioners, with contributions totaling RM770,300. This year, 42 recipients were from Tamil-language media agencies. The expanded initiative through Telekom Malaysia's CSR funding has aided 89 media practitioners since June 2026.

Since its inception in April 2023, Tabung Kasih@HAWANA, led by the Ministry of Communications and implemented through Bernama, has assisted 859 media practitioners across Malaysia.
