Selangor To Announce Aid Measures For Teluk Panglima Garang Storm Victims

Selangor: The Selangor state government will announce follow-up measures for victims affected by the storm in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, after a full report on the incident has been reviewed. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the measures would include assistance for those affected, and this would be discussed at the State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that a statement will be issued post the MMKN meeting regarding follow-up actions on the recent disaster. He mentioned that Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) has channelled RM400,000 in aid, while affected households are eligible for assistance under the Disaster Fund. Initial reports indicated that repairing Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Kampung Medan would cost between RM200,000 and RM400,000.

Amirudin also said that the Ministry of Education is addressing damage to affected schools, while the state government will assess the number of houses impacted by the incident. He noted that this incident was among the worst recorded in the past three to four years, as similar disasters previously occurred mostly in northern Selangor, particularly in padi field areas such as Sabak Bernam.

Kuala Langat police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi added that a temporary relief centre had been opened to house 18 individuals from eight families following the storm that struck Kampung Medan, Kuala Langat. The storm, occurring at about 4.15 pm, caused damage to five schools, a hall, and about 40 houses.

The affected areas included Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sijangkang Jaya, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, and SRA Kampung Medan. Other impacted sites were SK Jalan Tanjung, Dewan Wawasan Batu 9, the Sijangkang state constituency coordinator’s office, residential areas in Batu 9, and Taman Sijangkang Jaya industrial area.
