Selangor: The Selangor government is ramping up efforts to strengthen its position as the local aerospace and aviation hub with the goal of housing up to 70 percent of the nation’s operations in the state, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state is currently home to the largest aerospace and aviation operations, commanding around 67 percent market share following the recent launch of the 600-acre Selangor Aero Park (SAP) near KL International Airport (KLIA) Aeropolis. Amirudin noted the strong industry interest in the SAP development, with 100 acres (40.47 hectares) already occupied.
He expressed confidence in the project’s momentum, citing promotional efforts at the Paris Airshow. He anticipates that the first 200 acres of the park could be fully booked by the end of this year or by the first quarter of 2026, as stated during a dialogue session at the Selangor Aerospace Summit (SAS) 2025, part of the 9th Selangor International Business Summit 2025.
Amirudin also highlighted the state’s commitment to advancing the aerospace and aviation sector by exploring opportunities in unmanned aircraft and drone technology. He revealed that 1,000 acres in Kuala Selangor, adjacent to the Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) campus, have been earmarked for a drone excellence center.
He suggested that the state could potentially become a leading player in drone technology in Southeast Asia and among the top five in Asia within the next decade. Looking forward, Amirudin emphasized the importance of expanding beyond manufacturing and focusing on human capital development to ensure the industry’s sustainability.
He mentioned plans to establish schools and training centers within the SAP to nurture talent and support the industry’s future growth.
