SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will introduce a special grant for unregistered nursery operators in the state to register services and operations online starting December. State women’s development and social welfare exco Anfaal Saari announced that nursery operators will receive a maximum of RM5,000 from the total allocation of RM400,000 provided through the special grant.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as of last July, the inspection committee for unregistered nurseries under the Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) revealed that there were 128 unregistered nurseries operating in Selangor. This number has decreased significantly compared to 407 last year and 600 nurseries in 2022, attributed to the legitimisation programme carried out by the department.

Anfaal Saari, speaking at the closing ceremony of the Selangor 2024 state Nursery Service Advocacy Programme, highlighted the advantages for registered daycare operators, including tax exemptions and special incentives from the government. She a
lso mentioned that registered nurseries could become preferred partners for corporate social responsibility programmes by companies looking to collaborate with childcare centres.

Currently, about 3,000 nurseries are registered with JKM across the country, with 1,004 located in Selangor. Anfaal noted that the areas with the highest number of nurseries in the state include Petaling, Hulu Langat, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and Gombak.
