Hanoi:Selangor Selangor is on track to become the eighth state in Malaysia to adopt the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672), aiming to enhance the efficiency of its waste management and public cleansing services.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor reviewed the implementation plans for Act 672 after meeting with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin on October 8 and 10. These meetings were held to brief the Sultan on the progress and developments related to the Act.
During the audience, Minister Nga informed the Sultan that comprehensive efforts involving local authorities had been completed, and all stakeholders were committed to finalizing the remaining processes. Once the tripartite agreement is signed, the appointment of relevant stakeholders will proceed, allowing Selangor to benefit from improved service standards in waste management and public cleansing.
The implementation of the Act will be supported by additional funding from the Federal Government through the Housing and Local Government Ministry. Similar arrangements have been successfully established in other states and territories since 2011, including Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Pahang, Kedah, and Perlis.
Sultan Sharafuddin emphasized the need for the tripartite agreement between the ministry, the state government, and local authorities to be finalized swiftly to benefit the people of Selangor. He stressed that the standards of waste management and public cleansing services must not decline after the Act's adoption. The Sultan also highlighted the importance of timely and frequent waste collection services, given Selangor's large population.
Furthermore, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his hope that plans for waste-to-energy facilities in Selangor could be expedited with support from the Federal Government. He believes that cooperation among all parties can lead to successful solutions that serve the best interests of the people and contribute to a more advanced Selangor.
