Kuala langat: The Selangor government has identified 1,699.68 hectares (4,200 acres) of land to be developed as a third port on Carey Island in Kuala Langat. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that this includes 1,011.71 hectares (2,500 acres) of seabed land managed by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and 687.96 hectares (1,700 acres) of coastal land owned by Yayasan Selangor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that the details of the development would be finalized within a month before a proposal is submitted to the Ministry of Transport for selecting a developer. He emphasized that the state government plans to actively participate in both the development and management of the Carey Island Port. This project is expected to be a significant catalyst for Selangor’s growth over the next 20 to 30 years.

The initiative is projected to provide the state with a sustainable long-term revenue stream and offer new opportunities for PKNS as a key driver of Selangor’s economic development. Moreover, it aims to strengthen the financial position of Yayasan Selangor, enabling it to continue its mission of funding educational and state institutions. These remarks were made by Amirudin after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PKNS and Yayasan Selangor.

Amirudin also mentioned that PKNS will act as the state government’s representative to hold the shares and ownership rights of the new port. He noted a distinct difference between the Third Port and Port Klang, highlighting that the state would have active participation in both the construction and operation of the new port.

The MoU signed today formalizes a cooperation between PKNS and Yayasan Selangor to plan a new, sustainable, and competitive development on Carey Island for the proposed Third Port. This strategic initiative includes evaluating suitable and viable joint-venture business models and outlining the development terms for the next phase.

At the signing ceremony, PKNS was represented by its group chief executive officer, Datuk Mahmud Abbas, while Yayasan Selangor was represented by its chief executive officer, Raja Nazirin Shah Raja Mohamad.
