Shah alam: The Selangor government is planning to increase the number of recipients of the Higher Education Institution Study Incentive (HPIPT) to 5,000 next year, up from the current 3,000.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the demand for the HPIPT remains high, with over 5,000 applications received in both 2025 and this year. This significant demand has led the state government to reconsider the current number of recipients.

Amirudin explained that the state government is evaluating the possibility of increasing the number of recipients to between 5,000 and 6,000, depending on Selangor's financial status. He mentioned that the incentive had previously been extended to 5,000 recipients, and they aim to restore this number in the 2027 Budget.

He addressed this issue in response to a question from Datuk Noorazley Yahya (PN-Bukit Melawati) during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting. Noorazley inquired whether the state government intended to increase the HPIPT application quota in light of the rising demand.

Amirudin also noted that the state government is reviewing the HPIPT application period to ensure students have adequate time to apply after receiving confirmation of admission to higher education institutions. Additionally, there is a consideration to open HPIPT applications twice a year to accommodate students enrolling at different times.

The HPIPT comprises a RM1,000 financial aid awarded to Selangor students pursuing studies at recognized public and private higher education institutions. This assistance is available to students pursuing Level 4 Skills Certificate, diploma, and bachelor's degree programs.
