Selangor Government to Enforce Action Against Illegal Settlements Irrespective of Occupants’ Nationality

Jeram: The Selangor government is set to enforce action against all illegal settlements within the state, with measures including demolition, irrespective of the nationality of the occupants, as announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that the enforcement actions are guided by land administration requirements, land-use conditions, and compliance with local authority regulations, rather than any form of sentiment or nationality consideration. He emphasized that the issue centers on administration, management, land approvals, land use, and local authority approvals, and not on whether it involves any specific nationalities such as Rohingya, Indonesians, Vietnamese, or Nepalese.

Amirudin addressed reporters after inaugurating the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) 1 Plant Operations in Jeram, clarifying that the state government has been proactive in issuing notices and warnings to those involved before enforcing actions. He noted that most instances involve breaches of land-use conditions or developments that exceed approved limits. Nevertheless, the state government is committed to adhering to legal procedures, which include giving landowners adequate time to address breaches before imposing stricter measures such as land forfeiture.

He explained that the land forfeiture process requires careful legal adherence, but assured that prompt action would be taken to dismantle illegal structures. The state government, he said, is prepared to support enforcement operations by providing necessary logistics like trucks through local authorities to facilitate the removal of belongings or relocation of the foreigners involved.

Amirudin further highlighted that issues related to undocumented migrants fall under the jurisdiction of the Immigration Department and the Home Ministry. However, the state government and local authorities remain ready to assist with logistics and enforcement concerning municipal regulations and land use.

Recently, Amirudin mentioned that various government agencies have been addressing issues since 2016 related to buildings occupied by the Rohingya community in Kampung Baru Sungai Makau, Hulu Langat, which gained attention on social media. On the same day, the Hulu Langat District and Land Office announced that the demolition of the multi-storey residential building would proceed in accordance with existing laws.
