Selangor Government Strives To Complete Master Plan For Pulau Carey Port Development

Kuala lumpur: The Selangor state government is making efforts to complete the Pulau Carey Port Development Master Plan, following the Cabinet's decision to approve the development of a third port in the state on Wednesday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the Selangor State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), in collaboration with the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), a subsidiary of the state government, will spearhead the development. "This Master Plan will cover various aspects, including public infrastructure such as utilities, renewable energy, public transportation, digital connectivity, industrial areas, housing, and the preservation of local communities, including Malay reserve land and Orang Asli areas in Pulau Carey," he said in a statement today.

The Master Plan will evaluate the feasibility of setting up a Special Local Authority to supervise the entire development of the third terminal in Pulau Carey. This aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's directive to expedite the development for the nation's economic future. The Cabinet's approval is expected to further enhance Port Klang's position, currently among the top 10 major ports globally, having handled 14.64 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in 2024.

Further elaborating, Amirudin mentioned that the planning has been ongoing since 2023 and culminated in a meeting with the Prime Minister and Transport Minister Anthony Loke on December 15, 2025. The state government is committed to collaborating with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and relevant federal agencies to optimize the development process and establish a Special Economic Zone in the area.

"This development is crucial for boosting Port Klang's potential as the primary gateway for economic opportunities, not just for Malaysia but also for Southeast Asia, especially amid the current global crisis," Amirudin added.

On Wednesday, Transport Minister Loke announced the government's approval for the development project of the third terminal at Port Klang in Pulau Carey. The Cabinet meeting also endorsed the memorandum from the MOT for the project's implementation by the Selangor state government.
