Selangor Government Allocates RM31.5 Million for TAWAS Beneficiaries

Selangor:The Selangor government has designated RM31.5 million through the Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS) for distribution to 21,000 recipients who turn 18 this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that 13,000 children born in Selangor in 2008 have registered with Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS) to receive a RM1,500 payment. These recipients have a one-year period from their birth date until they turn 19 to claim the initiative.

Efforts are ongoing to contact those eligible for the payment, some of whom have changed their address or phone number. The state government plans to intensify outreach efforts to ensure no one misses out on this opportunity, as stated by Amirudin during the launch of the Tuaian Anak Harapan TAWAS (TUAH) initiative at the KSL Convention Centre.

Amirudin also highlighted that the TAWAS savings, collected since 2008, were invested through the Selangor Advance programme starting in 2021, yielding returns of seven to eight percent. This financial provision is intended to support recipients who may have missed initial notifications, with reserves available to cover payments for the next two to three years.

He urged remaining TAWAS registrants to contact YAWAS or their State Assembly Community Service Centre to facilitate the distribution of the funds.

Additionally, Amirudin discussed the ongoing Iltizam Anak Selangor (ANAS) initiative, which began in 2022, providing RM100 annually towards a RM500 savings target. The state government is also exploring opportunities to enhance support for university students through the Selangor Technical and Digital Skills Academy (STDC) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, contingent on public response.

Earlier at the event, Amirudin distributed the initiative to 370 Selangor children who have reached 18. The TAWAS initiative was officially launched on August 30, 2008, as part of the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) agenda, requiring applications before a child's third birthday.
