Selangor Cracks Down on Misuse of Religious Teaching Credentials During Ramadan

Selangor: The Selangor state government is set to implement stringent measures, including the suspension or revocation of teaching credentials, against individuals found misusing their granted permissions, especially during Ramadan. This decision aims to ensure that mosque activities are conducted in accordance with guidelines and remain free from prohibited topics.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, the chairman of the State Islamic Religious Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee, emphasized that only individuals with valid credentials are permitted to deliver lectures or 'tazkirah' at mosques. These credentials are issued for specific categories, such as Quranic teaching, and any deviation from these categories would lead to suspension or possible revocation of permissions, contingent upon the findings of state religious authorities.

The guidelines highlighted in a recent briefing for mosque activities during Ramadan stress that mosques should not be platforms for criticizing the government or political discussions to maintain unity among congregants. Dr Fahmi encouraged the public to file official complaints if uncredentialed speakers are involved or if any conditions are breached, allowing for proper investigations to take place.

Additionally, mosques are advised to conduct 20 rakaat of tarawih prayers, with 'tazkirah' sessions following Isyak prayers limited to 20 minutes. 'Tazkirah' before Zohor prayers is permitted but must conclude with the azan to ensure timely prayer performances. Mosques are also encouraged to engage local tahfiz institution imams for leading tarawih prayers, providing students with community-serving experience.

Dr Fahmi also noted that the state government has allocated adequate funds to support mosque programs throughout Ramadan, ensuring the smooth conduct of religious activities during the holy month.
