Selangor: The Selangor government will consider declaring an occasional holiday if the host contingent emerges as overall champions at the ongoing Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026. State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi stated that the decision would only be announced after the medal tally is finalized, with Selangor's team currently in a strong position to conclude the Games successfully.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Najwan mentioned that they would propose the holiday to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari for consideration. He suggested that if Selangor becomes the overall champions, an incentive could be offered to the people of the state. Additionally, he noted that incentives for athletes who perform well would be addressed after the conclusion of SUKMA.
As of 2.50 pm, Selangor has secured 85 gold medals. These achievements include victories by the women's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports team, women's 3m springboard diving, women's singles table tennis, and men's singles lawn bowls. Najwan emphasized the importance of focus, urging athletes to give their best efforts in the remaining one and a half days of competition, highlighting that winning or losing is an inherent part of competitive sports.
