Selangor: Selangor is confident of being the best base for StarPower Semiconductor Ltd to commence high-tech power module production operations in Malaysia. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said with world-class infrastructure, a mature industrial ecosystem, and a highly skilled workforce nurtured through the state’s talent development programmes, Selangor had the facilities required for the Jiaxing, Zhejiang-based company to launch its operations in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin, who is on an official working visit to China, said StarPower was currently assessing potential sites in Malaysia to set up operations with an initial investment of RM200 million, focusing on the production of IGBT and SiC MOSFET modules. ‘Selangor has all the advantages to be the investment destination of choice for StarPower, including its proximity to the nation’s main seaports and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which will expedite logistics.
In addition, Amirudin mentioned that the Speed Selangor policy, to be launched this October, will further accelerate investment approval processes and facilitate foreign investors’ entry. He shared these insights in a Facebook post after visiting the leading power module technology company.
Amirudin, along with the state government delegation, is undertaking a nine-day official working visit to China starting today. Expanding further, he said Selangor, through the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), is also implementing semiconductor talent development initiatives with the establishment of the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM).
He highlighted that among ASEM’s flagship programmes were the National Semiconductor Excellence Programme (NSEP), which offered front-end and back-end circuit design training, and the Global Semiconductor Exchange Programme (GSEP), which sent graduates for intensive training in analogue integrated circuit design in Shenzhen, China. StarPower is a global leader in power module technology, specialising in the design and manufacturing of components such as IGBT, SiC, MOSFET, IPM, and FRD, while also providing customised power solutions for various key sectors.
