Selangor Chosen As 2029 Islamic Solidarity Games Host

Selangor: Selangor has been chosen as the host of the 7th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029 by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that this duty reflects the world’s confidence in the state’s ability to organize sporting events involving the participation of 57 countries. The application to host was fully supported by the Federal Government and jointly presented by the National Olympic Committee Malaysia and the state government, represented by Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Committee chairman Najwan Halimi.

Turkiye hosted the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2021, and the Games are currently taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, until November 21. Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari added that the state government is looking to improve local infrastructure and facilities in preparation for the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and to strengthen Selangor’s capacity to be a platform for national athletes.

Meanwhile, ISSA in a separate statement noted the decision to award Selangor as host was made after the ISSA delegation and Games Commission, led by Secretary-General Nasser Majali, conducted inspection visits to candidate countries. The delegation assessed the readiness of each candidate’s capabilities to host the Games, including technical standards, logistics, and operational readiness.

Reflecting a collaborative spirit, all candidates agreed to support Malaysia’s bid. Following this, the Games Commission recommended Selangor, Malaysia as the Host City for the 2029 Islamic Solidarity Games to the ISSA Executive Board, which then endorsed the selection. The ISSA’s membership formally approved Selangor’s candidacy at the ISSA General Assembly today.
