Selangor: Addressing the climate change crisis, strengthening the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector, and developing human capital will be among the key priorities of the 2027 Selangor Budget. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari emphasized that the budget would also focus on issues affecting people's well-being, including the increasing demand for care services due to a growing ageing population.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin highlighted several new areas and key priorities identified during the forum, which are set to be included in the upcoming budget. These include comprehensively addressing the climate change crisis, ensuring the manufacturing sector remains competitive, and facilitating its transition towards advanced technologies. The insights and feedback gathered during the forum will guide the state government in formulating the budget, scheduled to be tabled in November.

Amirudin mentioned that the state is also considering public feedback on service delivery at both local and state government levels, including aspects like cleanliness and road maintenance. He noted that addressing the needs of an ageing population, referred to as the care economy, aligns with the priorities outlined in the Second Selangor Plan (2026-2030).

Climate change, according to Amirudin, should be treated as a crisis requiring collaboration between the state and federal government, rather than simply as a seasonal phenomenon. The issues of haze, floods, rising water levels, and the effects of dry weather following extreme weather events require a comprehensive plan involving all states.

Environmental challenges transcend state borders, involving Selangor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Kedah, and others. Amirudin stressed the importance of addressing these issues as a crisis through a comprehensive plan involving all states.

When questioned about the allocation for environmental initiatives under the 2027 Selangor Budget, Amirudin stated that the focus should not solely be on the amount allocated but rather on the necessary actions and cooperation from all parties. He emphasized the critical role of the federal government and suggested that Selangor could lead by initiating the necessary measures.

Amirudin also noted that Selangor had already launched several initiatives, including establishing a climate change adaptation centre, which could serve as a foundation for a more comprehensive effort to tackle the challenges.
