Selangor:The Selangor government has pledged RM50 million to the National Strategic Investment Fund, collaborating with Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Penang government in a RM150 million endeavor to boost Malaysian semiconductor and advanced technology companies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) announced that Selangor, Penang, and Khazanah will each contribute RM50 million to create the fund. This partnership aims to leverage the combined strengths and expertise of both states in fostering Malaysian semiconductor firms with global competitiveness.
Ng Sze Han, Selangor state investment, trade, and mobility committee chairman and Sidec chairman, emphasized Penang's strong capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, assembly, and testing, while Selangor focuses on front-end integrated circuit (IC) design and chip innovation.
The initiative is set to complement a RM1.2 billion investment by Khazanah and the Retirement Fund Inc, as announced by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Budget 2027 presentation. This investment is aimed at helping Malaysian semiconductor companies transition to higher-value industry segments.
Ng also expressed Selangor's eagerness to establish a formal co-investment and referral framework with Ehsan Kapital and the National Strategic Investment Fund. This framework is intended to accelerate commercialisation, business expansion, and global growth.
Beyond financial support, Selangor's contribution includes IC design ecosystem integration, engineering talent, investment expertise, and a pipeline of promising Malaysian companies. The shared objective is to develop more Malaysian-owned semiconductor companies with proprietary intellectual property and to commercialise Malaysian-designed chips for the global market.
