SEDA Launches Rebate Initiative for Industrial Energy Efficiency Under SAVE 4.0 Programme.

IPOH: The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) is poised to extend its rebate offering to industry players through the Save As You Go (SAVE) 4.0 energy efficiency programme. This move is set to bolster energy-efficient practices within the industrial sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Hamzah Hussin, the chief executive officer of SEDA, highlighted that Budget 2025, presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has allocated up to RM70 million in e-Rebates to incentivize both consumers and industries to invest in energy-efficient electrical appliances. Initially targeted at household users, the government has now opened the initiative to include industrial players.

The programme will cover the purchase of energy-efficient industrial chillers, known for their high electricity consumption and associated costs. “We want to encourage industries to replace old units with more energy-efficient models, which can help reduce their energy consumption,” Hamzah stated during the “Coffee
Series: How ESG Can Reshape The Industries In Perak” event, organized by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk).

Hamzah further revealed that a total of 292,781 rebate units have been utilized by consumers nationwide under the SAVE 4.0 Programme, with e-rebates of up to RM400 available for the purchase of four or five-star energy-efficient refrigerators and air conditioners at registered stores or online platforms. Originally slated to conclude in December 2024, the programme witnessed the redemption of more than 245,000 rebate units by August 2024, leading the government to inject an additional RM10 million into the initiative.

The redemption statistics showed that consumers acquired 149,952 units for air conditioners and over 142,829 units for refrigerators this year. Kedah led the redemption count with 43,187 units, followed by Johor and Selangor with 39,909 and 38,497 units, respectively. The programme is projected to save up to 200.35 gigawatt hours annually, translating to savings of RM79 mil
lion per year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 128,000 tons annually.

To date, the SAVE 4.0 programme has utilized RM58.5 million of the RM60 million budgeted by the government, underscoring its significant impact and reach across Malaysia.
