Kangar: Additional security measures have been activated immediately at the country's entry points following the shooting involving the Bukit Kayu Hitam Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) commander SAC Mohd Nasaruddin Mohd Nasir early today. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government viewed the incident seriously and assured that security at national entry points remained under control.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin expressed gratitude that Mohd Nasaruddin was safe and stated that the incident is being thoroughly investigated by the Royal Malaysia Police. He emphasized that firm action would be taken against those involved and stressed that the government would not compromise with any threat to national security. Saifuddin urged all parties to refrain from speculation and allow the authorities to conduct a professional investigation.
In the 5.40 am incident at the Masjid Al-Muhajirin slip road, about one kilometre from the Malaysia-Thailand border, a Proton X70 driven by Mohd Nasaruddin was shot at by two men on a motorcycle. Mohd Nasaruddin, who was on his way to perform Subuh prayers at the mosque, was unhurt.
Meanwhile, in a statement, MCBA said the incident will not weaken the agency's resolve but has instead reinforced its officers' determination to remain steadfast, courageous, and professional in safeguarding the nation's borders. "Every entry point into the country will remain secure, controlled, and sovereign. We will not tolerate any threat to national security, peace, or territorial integrity," the statement read.
MCBA noted that Bukit Kayu Hitam has faced multiple threats recently and described the morning's attack as a reckless act, which will not be tolerated. The statement added that MCBA director-general Datuk Seri Shuhaily Mohd Zain visited the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS Complex to assess the incident, ensure security measures, and express full support for frontline officers and personnel. The agency confirmed that Mohd Nasaruddin is safe and remains highly motivated to resume his duties and responsibilities.
