Keningau: The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department has suspended the search for a Sabah Electricity worker believed to have drowned after being swept away by floodwaters in Sungai Nuntunan, Apin-Apin, Keningau last night. In a statement today, its state director Mohd Pisar Aziz announced that the operation to find the 35-year-old man will resume tomorrow.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the search, which commenced at 9.30 am today, covered a 40-kilometre radius along the Pagalan River, including Sungai Kampung Banjar, Sungai Kampung Mempikit, and Sungai Kampung Rimbayan. Efforts were made to locate the victim after initial sightings along the river, but the rescue was impeded by fast-flowing waters.
The incident took place when three Sabah Electricity workers were caught in floodwaters while on their way to Kampung Nuntunan to restore power. Two of the workers managed to escape, but the third was swept away by the strong currents. The victim was first seen at 1.06 am near Sungai Kepayan but was carried off by the swift waters. He was spotted again at 1.15 am near Sungai Baginda, but the rescue teams were unable to reach him due to the challenging conditions.
