SEA Games: Five Malaysian Badminton Representatives Storm Into Quarter-Finals

Pathum thani: Five Malaysian representatives made their way to the quarter-finals of the badminton event in the SEA Games Thailand 2025 in Pathum Thani today. National men’s singles player and fourth seed Leong Jun Hao took 32 minutes to subdue Vixunnalath Phichith, winning 21-15, 21-15, at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the world number 28 player will face home player Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul, who defeated Phone Pyae Naing of Myanmar 21-9, 21-10. Another national men’s singles shuttler, Justin Hoh, stunned third seed Jason Teh of Singapore, winning 22-20, 21-15 in 50 minutes. The 21-year-old is set to play Kantaphon Wangcharoen after the Thai player prevailed against Hein Htut from Myanmar, 21-10, 21-13.

In women’s singles action, both K. Letshanaa and Wong Ling Ching advanced to the last eight. Letshanaa defeated Singapore’s Jaslyn Hooi 21-17, 22-20 and is set to meet top seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia, who received a bye in the first round. Wong Ling Ching, who overcame Insyirah Khan 21-16, 21-15, will face Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya from Indonesia. Amartya advanced after coming from behind to eliminate Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh, 16-21, 22-20, 21-14.

Earlier today, national mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin breezed past Solomon Jr. Padiz and Mary Destiny Untal, 21-8, 21-14, in 26 minutes. The world number 21 duo will face home favourites and second seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, who received a bye in the opening round, in the last eight tomorrow.

The SEA Games Thailand 2025 is taking place from December 9 to 20 across two provinces, Bangkok and Chonburi.
