SEA Games 2025: Malaysian Men’s Karate Team Secures Silver in Kata Event

Chaeng watthana: The national men’s karate squad presented the Malaysian contingent with a silver medal at the 2025 SEA Games through the team kata event held at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, today. The national team, comprising Mohamad Aiqal Asmadie, Muhammad Arif Hafizi Hishamadi, and Mohamad Haznil Henry, collected 23.3 points, trailing the home squad by just 1.2 points, who clinched the gold.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, national kata coach Mohd Norfarhan Nordin expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. He noted that the men’s trio, formed just a year ago, showcased a commendable effort, especially considering Malaysia did not field representatives in the team event during the previous Games. “For me, this is a good start for the kata team because we were just formed this year. They gave more than we expected. For me, they are still the best,” he stated following the competition.

The achievement is seen as a crucial step in Malaysia’s preparations to host the 2027 SEA Games. Earlier in the day, the national women’s karate squad secured a bronze medal after being bested by Vietnam in the semi-finals.
