SCIMS to Launch in December 2025 to Strengthen Supply Chain Resilience

Kuala lumpur: The Supply Chain Intelligent Management System (SCIMS), an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), is slated for a December 2025 rollout, as announced by MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. The system aims to bolster the resilience of Malaysia’s supply chains by mapping out vulnerabilities and risks across eight key sectors.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry has developed comprehensive supply chain mappings for the pharmaceutical, medical devices, personal protective equipment, electrical and electronics, automotive, and food and beverage sectors, covering livestock, aquaculture, and agriculture. This initiative seeks to identify and document every industry player involved in these sectoral supply chains.

The concept of SCIMS was conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for resilient supply chains. Tengku Zafrul explained that the current tariff challenges further underscore the importance of identifying vulnerabilities within key industries to ensure economic security.

During the MBSB Group Anchor Companies Open Day and Vendor Business Matching Sessions, Tengku Zafrul also introduced a RM100 million financing initiative under MIDF’s Global Market Access Accelerator (GLOMAX). This program aims to empower at least 50 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-tier companies (MTCs) to access global markets, offering not only financing but also advisory services to enhance their competitiveness internationally.

GLOMAX is designed to complement existing export programs by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp). The minister emphasized the crucial role of financial institutions like MBSB Bhd in supporting supply chain security and resilience amid global realignments.

Moreover, Malaysia is advocating for enhanced regional supply chain resilience and integration through its ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. Tengku Zafrul highlighted the potential of strengthening local vendor ecosystems and leveraging regional partnerships to spur new supply chains and investment opportunities, fostering robust growth.

The event at the Sime Darby Convention Centre brought together over 400 SMEs and vendors with 20 major anchor companies, marking a significant step in fortifying Malaysia’s supply chain ecosystem. Tengku Zafrul noted that SMEs constitute approximately 98% of registered businesses in Malaysia, and their integration into larger supply chains is vital for fostering innovation, growth, and job creation.

He also stressed the significance of public-private partnerships in achieving these objectives. As MITI Minister, Tengku Zafrul expressed optimism about collaborations between government-linked companies, industry leaders, and agencies like MBSB Bank and MIDF, which bridge the gap between policy and execution to catalyze industrial development.
