Sarikei: The Sarikei Welfare Office (PKMB) is currently tracing the biological mother or next of kin of an abandoned baby girl who is now under the care of the office’s child protectors.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the baby, estimated to be about three months old at the time she was found, was left in a rented room on the upper floor of a shop lot on Jalan Tuanku Osman here on April 10.
‘The baby was discovered by a woman who was also renting a room in the same building. The woman then handed the baby over to a married couple in Kabong, who were her acquaintances, for temporary care,’ the spokesperson said in a statement today.
The couple later brought the baby to the Sarikei PKMB to seek advice on childcare and legal adoption procedures.
‘We must locate the baby’s biological mother or next of kin to obtain important information related to the baby’s placement and birth certificate registration. The case is still under investigation under the Child Act 2001,’ the spokesperson said.
Members of the public are urged to contact the child protectors, Atika or Emy, at 084-651005 or 084-644750 immediately if they have any information about the identity or whereabouts of the baby’s biological mother.
