Kuching: This year’s Sarawak Tourism Calendar is featuring 250 events, compared to 248 events last year, said State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. He mentioned that Sarawak continues to host major events such as the Sarawak Regatta and World Rainforest Music Festival, which remain key attractions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Kuching South City Council will continue to organise the food festival, a popular event that highlights the local community’s culture and draws thousands of visitors over a two-week period. Speaking after chairing the Sarawak Tourism Steering Committee meeting, Abdul Karim stated that the state aims to attract five million visitors this year, surpassing last year’s figure of 4.8 million.
He noted that most visitors last year came from Brunei, with over 150,000 visitors each month positively impacting border towns and cities like Limbang, Lawas, and Miri. He also observed that visitors from Indonesia have shown increasing interest, with Kuching gaining recognition as a must-visit destination.
