Sarawak: The Sarawak State Government will channel a contribution of RM100,000 to each family of personnel involved in the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government announced through a statement on social media by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) that it will also fully cover the education fees of the victims' children who are still in school through the Sarawak Foundation. This support reflects the government's commitment to easing the burden on the affected families and honoring the service of the personnel.

The statement highlighted that Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg agreed to the financial assistance as a gesture of the Sarawak State Government's concern for the families and next of kin involved. The full coverage of education fees is intended to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by the personnel who provided vital services to the community, especially those in remote areas.

Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) reported that a BO-105 helicopter, carrying five individuals including the pilot, crashed near Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport), Ulu Baram, approximately 929 kilometers from Kuching. According to CAAM, it received information about the incident from the Flight Information Service at 3.58 pm, confirming that the helicopter was conducting FDS flight operations at the time.
