Sarikei: Sarawak's revenue performance for the first six months of the year has been notably strong, ranking among the highest ever recorded for this period, stated Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Without revealing specific numbers, he expressed confidence in the state's financial standing, which has allowed the government to declare a Special Financial Assistance (BKK) equivalent to two months' salary for state civil servants.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari shared that while the figures remain undisclosed for now, further details will be revealed when the Sarawak Budget is presented. He confidently announced the two-month bonus for civil servants, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.

In addition to financial announcements, Abang Johari highlighted developmental plans for Sarikei, focusing on tourism, the green economy, and high-value agriculture sectors through to 2030. He pointed out the potential of Sarikei's mangrove forests as an asset in the global carbon economy. Infrastructure development is also on the agenda, with plans to extend the runway at Tanjung Manis Airport for ATR aircraft operations, enhancing air connectivity and boosting tourism.

Addressing health concerns, Abang Johari announced the addition of 10 dialysis machines at Sarikei Hospital due to a rise in diabetes cases, urging the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

During a visit to the Sarikei Bypass Construction Project, Abang Johari discussed plans to build a new road linking Sarikei with Bukit Kinyau. The Land and Survey Department has been tasked with preparing a cost estimate for this project, which aims to complete the bypass network and promote development in new areas. This road network will support agricultural expansion and improve water and energy supply to new development zones.

The Sarikei Bypass Project, which started on April 17, 2024, at a cost of RM35 million, is nearly complete, with a slight delay in the construction schedule.
