Sarawak Prepared to Host SEA Games 2027 Boxing Event

Sarawak: Sarawak, the co-host of the 2027 SEA Games, is prepared to stage the boxing event in the state. State Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, emphasized the readiness of Sarawak to host the boxing competitions, highlighting the Sri Aman Unity Stadium as a primary venue due to the strong support from spectators when athletes competed there previously.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdul Karim expressed his preference for hosting the boxing events in Sri Aman, citing the enthusiastic response from supporters during the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) when Sarawak athletes participated. He shared his insights with reporters during his ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house.

Abdul Karim, who also holds the position of Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, mentioned that the cycling velodrome project is still in the planning phase. Due to this, it is likely that cycling events will be hosted by Selangor for this edition of the games. The plan to construct the first velodrome in Borneo in Kuching remains, with intentions for it to serve multiple purposes beyond just cycling events.

In total, 36 sports events have been identified for the 2027 SEA Games. Sarawak will host 18 events, while Kuala Lumpur will manage 15, Penang will handle four, and Johor will oversee one.
