Sarawak: The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak Brigade has successfully seized untaxed goods valued at RM9.9 million as part of operations conducted statewide under Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Bravo, and Op Taring Batas from November 26 until yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, SAC Lim Bak Phai, the commander of the Sarawak Brigade, reported that 58 individuals were arrested during the operations. The arrested individuals include both local residents and foreigners, with ages ranging from 16 to 74 years old.
The largest seizure occurred on November 26 in Miri, where simultaneous raids on six premises resulted in the confiscation of goods worth RM2.5 million. During this operation, authorities seized 4,909 cartons of cigarettes, 12,586 litres of liquor, and two vehicles. Four local men and two women suspected of selling untaxed goods were arrested in connection with these seizures. All arrests and confiscated items were handed over to the Miri district police headquarters for further investigation under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
SAC Lim also highlighted the second-largest seizure, which took place on December 5, with goods valued at approximately RM1.6 million. The operation led to the seizure of 3,644 cartons of cigarettes, 1,061.4 litres of liquor, and firecrackers. Additionally, two vehicles were seized following raids on seven locations throughout Sarawak.
