Sarawak Gathers Govt Agencies, Industry Players For Next Leap In Semiconductors

Sarawak: Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor is set to host the Sarawak Semiconductor Syndication Session on July 21, bringing together key stakeholders to propel Sarawak’s development as a semiconductor hub. The event, which includes federal and state ministries, government agencies, local universities, training centres, and industry players, aims to accelerate the region’s growth in this sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the session is jointly organised by the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED). This initiative is designed to transform strategic vision into actionable plans, with a keen focus on future generations and the economic resilience of Sarawak.

The workshop follows the launch of the Sarawak Semiconductor Strategic Framework and the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030, which Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated in April. SMD’s chief executive officer, Shariman Jamil, will lead the session and deliver an exclusive presentation detailing ten strategic steps to establish a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem in Sarawak by 2030.

Shariman emphasized the importance of a bottom-up approach, stating that it ensures the framework aligns with both local and global industry needs, thereby unlocking new opportunities for the people of Sarawak. He described the syndication as a crucial step in turning vision into reality, aiming to position Sarawak as the “Silicon Nerve Centre of Asia.”

Participants of the session are expected to help formulate coordinated strategies that align Sarawak’s efforts with both national and international objectives. The strategic recommendations from the session will be formally presented to Premier Abang Johari.
