Sarawak Cancer Centre Construction to Commence in Early 2027

Kota samarahan: The Sarawak Cancer Centre project in Kota Samarahan is slated to begin in January 2027, following the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to the chosen contractor, as announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The project is currently in the design-and-build tender stage, with 10 contractors having successfully passed the pre-qualification process and attended a briefing to fully understand the project scope before submitting their proposals.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, contractors will have approximately three months to prepare and submit their proposals. After the evaluation process is completed, the LOA is expected to be issued in early January 2027, allowing for the commencement of design and construction works. The selected contractor will have 60 months to complete the design and construction, followed by a two-year Defects Liability Period (DLP).

The design of the Sarawak Cancer Centre must adhere to the Health Ministry's requirements while incorporating a modern concept. The centre will be constructed adjacent to the Sarawak Heart Centre on a 10.9-hectare (27-acre) site and will feature a capacity of 310 beds, offering both outpatient and inpatient services. The total project cost is anticipated to exceed RM1 billion, with the Sarawak government allocating RM1 billion for the project. The amount will be reimbursed later based on the agreed mechanism.
