Sarawak Budget 2027 to Address Electricity Tariff and Economic Direction

Accra:Sarawak Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has hinted that the Sarawak Budget 2027 will address issues such as electricity tariffs, economic direction, and the state's revenue position. The budget will be tabled at the upcoming State Legislative Assembly session.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari did not specify the measures to be announced, instead advising the public to await the budget presentation. He stated, "God willing, I will table the Sarawak Budget in two weeks. Let us wait for the budget."

While addressing the Sarawakku Sayang 2026 Programme in Mukah Division, Abang Johari commented on the electricity tariffs, reassuring the public that Sarawak may not raise them as other states have, as long as he is in charge.

He also touched on Sarawak's future economic direction and revenue position, promising more details during the budget presentation. On the topic of Sarawak's rights over oil and gas resources, Abang Johari emphasized that the state will not back down in defending these rights, which are enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He highlighted that the wealth generated from these resources should be used to fund development and enhance the welfare of Sarawakians. The establishment of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) is cited as a strategic measure by the state government to manage these resources effectively. Abang Johari stressed the importance of state revenue in funding infrastructure and agricultural development.
