Sarawak Allocates RM20 Million to Mission Schools for Facility Upgrades

Accra:Sarawak A total of 129 mission schools across Sarawak have received Phase 1 funding amounting to RM20 million from the Mission School Financial Assistance Grant aimed at upgrading and improving their facilities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that 129 cheques were distributed to the schools through six mission authorities in the state. This funding is part of the RM30 million approved by the Sarawak government for 2026, which marks an increase of RM10 million from the previous year.

The remaining RM10 million for the year will be used to enhance academic performance in mission schools. This initiative is designed to ensure these schools can achieve better educational standards, especially with the availability of free tertiary education (FTES). The aim is to provide students from these schools the opportunity to benefit from further education.

Uggah, speaking at the Sarawak Mission School Assistance Fund Phase 1 Cheque Presentation Ceremony at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building, emphasized that the RM10 million allocation will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, alongside improving proficiency in English language and Mathematics, and developing basic reading and counting skills.
