Kuala lumpur: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing policeman, who is believed to have been swept away by strong currents in Kampung Giching yesterday, continues with about 60 personnel from various agencies involved.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman stated that the operation includes efforts from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and local villagers. The operation was temporarily halted at 4.30 am today and resumed at 7.30 am.
“We started the SAR at about 11 pm yesterday and halted at 4.30 am today, before it was resumed at 7.30 am today. We cannot confirm whether the victim drowned or otherwise because there are no clues found yet, except for personal belongings in the vehicle that were confirmed to belong to the 23-year-old victim,” Norhizam explained to reporters at the scene.
He further detailed that the personal belongings found included a ‘pouch’ containing a police identification card, shoes, and a jacket, all believed to belong to the victim. Witnesses reported seeing the victim clinging to a signboard before being swept away by the strong current.
Initial information suggests the victim, who is stationed at the Nilai police station, was on his way to work after visiting his family in the area. The incident occurred when the policeman’s car became trapped in rising floodwaters near Klinik Desa Giching, sparking fears that he may have drowned.
