Kuala lumpur: The remarks made by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Mohd Nor, implying that Malaysians of Chinese and Indian descent have other homelands while Malays only have Malaysia, have sparked significant debate and concern.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UMNO Information Chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has expressed that such rhetoric can create divisive impressions within the multicultural fabric of Malaysia. She emphasized that for millions of Malaysians of Chinese and Indian descent, Malaysia is their true homeland, not a place of transit.

Azalina highlighted the Federal Constitution's role in establishing the position of Islam, the institution of the Malay Rulers, and the rights of Malays and Bumiputera, while also guaranteeing the legitimate rights and status of every citizen, irrespective of their ancestry. She stated that every legitimate citizen shares the same homeland and is protected by the same Constitution, which ensures their right to live in peace and dignity.

As the campaign for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election intensifies, Azalina called on all leaders and political campaign machinery to be mindful of their rhetoric. She warned against using issues related to race, religion, and the royal institution as tools to incite anger or fear for electoral gain.

Azalina stressed that the people of Negeri Sembilan deserve an election campaign focused on substantive issues that impact their daily lives, such as the cost of living, employment opportunities, housing, education, healthcare, local development, and the future of their children. She reiterated that Barisan Nasional (BN) aims to provide stability, experience, and moderation, advocating for a nation that serves as a home for every citizen without resorting to fear-based politics.
