Sandakan: The Sandakan District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) has declared the end of the fire disaster in Kampung Nunuyan Laut here, effective 10 am today. Sandakan JPBD chairman Datuk Walter Kenson, who is also the Sandakan Municipal Council president, announced that with this declaration, the temporary relief centre at Masjid Al Fattah, Kampung Nunuyan Laut, has been closed.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the declaration aligns with the views and recommendations of the Sandakan JPBD. In a statement issued by the JPBD Secretariat, it was noted that the situation has been brought under control following the destruction caused by the fire.

The fire, which occurred three days ago, devastated 28 houses in Kampung Nunuyan Laut on Pulau Nunuyan Laut at about 3 am. The incident led to the displacement of 109 victims from 29 households, who were subsequently housed at the temporary relief centre at Masjid Al Fattah.

The response and coordination by the local authorities have allowed the affected residents to begin the process of rebuilding and recovery, as efforts to provide further assistance continue.
