Sandakan:The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station is actively monitoring the coastal areas following a magnitude 5.0 earthquake that occurred in the waters off the district at 9.11 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Jimmy Lagung stated that there have been no emergency calls or reports of damage related to the earthquake so far. The patrols are being conducted as a precautionary measure across Sandakan's coastal regions.
Residents are urged to remain calm as the situation is under control. Authorities advise the public to report any suspicious observations to the relevant authorities for further assistance.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department reported that the earthquake was detected at coordinates 4.9 degrees north and 118.7 degrees east, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was approximately 48 kilometers east of Lahad Datu.
