Kangar:The Safe Internet Campaign should become ingrained in society to ensure digital technology is used wisely, safely, ethically, and responsibly, stated Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Northern Region senior director Izani Othman.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Izani highlighted the need for society to be more cautious with the rise of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), urging people to assess the authenticity of digital content before sharing it. He advised users to pause and question the truth and source of content appearing on platforms like the For You Page or in WhatsApp groups.
Izani made these remarks while inaugurating the Kangar parliamentary-level 'Karnival Komuniti Kempen Internet Selamat X Prints and Pixels Expo (PriPEX) 2026 at Dewan 2020. The event was organized in collaboration with Perlis MCMC and the Perlis Department of Education.
He emphasized the growing challenge of digital security due to AI's capability to generate or alter media content, necessitating increased vigilance among users. Izani also stressed the importance of considering the impact on others before sharing content, as it can affect the dignity and feelings of individuals.
Parents and teachers, he noted, play a crucial role in fostering a safe environment for children to discuss Internet-related experiences and seek help. Izani also urged content creators to produce original work and respect copyright, privacy, and others' rights on digital platforms.
Lastly, he mentioned that PriPEX offers students a chance to explore creativity in producing images, videos, and designs, which can be beneficial for learning, portfolio development, and digital economic opportunities.
