Safe Internet Carnival Empowers Digital Literacy in Lembah Jaya

Lembah jaya: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is strengthening efforts to enhance the public's digital resilience through the 2026 Community Safe Internet Campaign Carnival for the Hulu Langat district, held in Lembah Jaya today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad stated that the carnival aims to raise public awareness of cyber threats and the safe use of the Internet, as such issues now affect all segments of society. He emphasized that children, adults, and senior citizens are increasingly vulnerable to online threats such as sexual exploitation and scams.

Syed Ahmad highlighted that while conventional crimes involving physical harm are declining, online scam cases are on the rise. He shared instances of victims losing their retirement savings to scams, making it challenging to trace suspects due to the use of mule accounts. These observations were based on regular engagements with the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters (IPD).

Meanwhile, MCMC, in a statement, mentioned that the programme, attended by approximately 300 participants, is part of the commission's ongoing commitment to equip Malaysians with digital safety knowledge. The commission stressed that digital safety is essential in everyday life, with the rise of online scams, cyberbullying, misinformation, and misuse of personal data.

The government and MCMC plan to expand the Safe Internet Campaign to promote safe and responsible Internet usage. They emphasized the collective responsibility of the government, educational institutions, industry, community leaders, and Internet users in building a safe digital environment.

MCMC urged the public to practice caution online, safeguard personal information, and report suspicious activities. They aim to organize 120 Community Carnivals nationwide this year, with seven in Selangor. The Safe Internet Campaign has reached over 10,303 schools and higher learning institutions through 2,143 community programmes since January 2025, with a goal to involve at least one million participants this year.

The carnival featured interactive activities like a Safe Internet Campaign briefing, competitions, a Mobile Legends tournament, and sessions on online content and user responsibilities. Participants engaged in quizzes, demonstrations, exhibitions, and community performances to boost awareness of digital safety and cybercrime prevention.
