Safe Internet Campaign Expands to Public Spaces Nationwide

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Communications is intensifying its efforts to promote digital literacy by expanding the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) to public spaces, including residential areas, mosques, and suraus this year. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has announced the initiative's objective to ensure cyber safety awareness reaches communities at the grassroots level, targeting residents' associations, neighbourhood committees, and religious institutions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the campaign will see the activation of 1,099 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) nationwide, with the aim of achieving the KIS programme's objectives. Fahmi made these remarks following the launch of KIS @ Bazar Ramadan at IWK Eco Park, Pantai Dalam. While last year's campaign concentrated on schools, this year's focus extends to the broader public, including visitors at Ramadan bazaars.

Fahmi emphasized the shared responsibility of safe Internet use, urging parents to monitor their children's online activities alongside government and social media platforms' efforts. As the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, he highlighted the Ramadan edition of the campaign, which seeks to inform bazaar-goers about safe online practices. He noted the vulnerability of many social media users to cyberbullying, online scams, and paedophilia, particularly those with low digital literacy.

In response to concerns about potential Internet disruptions due to conflicts in the Middle East, Fahmi reassured that Malaysia's internet services remain stable and well-managed. He cited reports from the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) indicating no significant impact on online systems, with ongoing monitoring by MCMC and national security agencies to safeguard cyberspace from external threats.
