Sabah Government Supports Likas Fire Victims with Comprehensive Aid

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah government, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has pledged to provide substantial support to the victims of the recent fire in Kampung Cempaka, Likas. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of those affected, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government has extended RM1,300 in aid to each head of household. This aid comprises RM1,000 from the state government and an additional RM300 from the Yayasan Sabah Group. During a visit to the Likas Multipurpose Hall, where aid was distributed to victims, Hajiji outlined the assistance plan.

The government is not only providing financial aid but also distributing essential items such as gas stoves and cooking gas through the Sabah Welfare Foundation. Additionally, food baskets are being supplied by the Yayasan Sabah Group. Other organizations, including the Community Development Leaders Unit, have also contributed by providing food aid.

Immediate relief efforts at the temporary relief centers include food baskets from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, retort meal packs, and food from the Sabah Welfare Services Department. The fire, which erupted early on Saturday, rendered 511 people from 91 families homeless. Two relief centers were promptly established to accommodate the victims: PPS Likas, which shelters 200 residents, and PPS Damai in Luyang, housing 311 evacuees.
