Kota kinabalu: The campaign period for the 17th Sabah state election concluded without any untoward incidents, as confirmed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The security situation remained under control, facilitating a smooth democratic process in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Royal Malaysia Police received several reports related to the campaign, including incidents involving the removal of party symbols and complaints about speeches during political talks. However, the number of these reports was minimal and each is currently under investigation according to the relevant sections and acts. Saifuddin provided this update at the handover ceremony of the Registrar of Societies Malaysia’s 2025 MADANI Adopted Village Project in Kampung Sindang Baru.
In attendance at the event were Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, director-general of the Registrar of Societies Malaysia Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad, and Sarawak State Development Office director Datuk Jasni Jubli. Saifuddin emphasized the deployment of 10,000 police personnel throughout Sabah on polling day to ensure voter safety and smooth operations, a decision based on security assessments indicating the necessity of this number for managing control from 8 am to 5 pm.
The Sabah police contingent currently includes around 9,000 personnel, and additional support was mobilised from Sarawak to fulfill operational requirements. Saifuddin remarked that the election process was peaceful, orderly, and free from complications, with continued police monitoring of any complaints received during the campaign period.
In relation to the Kampung Angkat MADANI project, Saifuddin highlighted the successful implementation of 12 programs with a total expenditure of RM12 million. Each program, funded with RM1 million, was completed within its allocated budget and time frame. The Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative, announced in Budget 2024, aims to reduce the development gap between urban and rural areas in Malaysia.
